In just a few short weeks, we will be sharing some of our favorite foods with some of our favorite people as we celebrate Thanksgiving in Houston and throughout the rest of the country. Along with the delicious food, Thanksgiving also brings some fun activities here in the Houston area you should know about.
H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade
Start Turkey Day off right by watching the 70th Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade. It starts at 9 a.m. in downtown Houston, but you can also watch it on TV while you prepare your turkey. Thanksgiving falls on November 28th this year.
100th Holiday Spectacular
On Saturday, November 30th, head to downtown Houston and celebrate the start of the Christmas season with Mayor Turner. This free family event includes the annual lighting of the 65-foot Christmas tree. There will also be live musical performance.
While Houston doesn’t get very much winter weather, you can still experience the fun of ice skating outdoors at Discovery Green in downtown Houston. This large outdoor skating arena is open November 15 through February 2. It is even open on Thanksgiving Day if you want to burn off some of your pie calories.
Come see the Houston Zoo transformed into a beautiful display of lights. More than 15 miles of lights will illuminate the zoo’s pathways and trees. The lights will be on display November 17 through January 13.
